Today, some Issues have a ~70% approval rating, but get absolutely no movement at the Federal level (approval rate of Congress ~10%).  The framework of our Constitutional Government (Gerrymandering, etc.) and the lack of Democracy within Political Parties (Superdelegates, etc.) have resulted in bottlenecks which effectively redirect, blunt, or outright block the will of the People.  The Challenge facing the People stems from the question:  How can more direct pathways of Citizen choice be injected into these Institutions and Restore control of our Electoral Process to ensure it reflects the Voices of Citizens?

Society faces one of the largest instances of Wealth Inequality the Country has ever known; where Families in the top 10% of wealth distribution holds 76% of all Family wealth.  And we haven't even begun to talk about Corporate wealth, Campaign Finance corruption, or the impacts of the Citizens United case.  The Challenge facing the People stems from the question:  How can we blunt the influence of Money in Politics and Restore control of our Electoral Process to ensure it reflects the Voices of Citizens and not Organized Wealth?

The planet is undergoing incredible change (Rising Sea levels, Higher Energy Storms, Floods, Droughts), all of which is a direct impact of humanity's drive to harness the necessary Energy required to move people, resources, and information.  The Challenge facing the People stems from the question:  How can we provide the Energy needs of Humanity while Restoring the planet's natural energetic Balance?

criminal justice reform

With Evidence showing significant disparities in prison sentences between People of the minority vs. majority, it is clear that Fairness and Justice needs to be reasserted in judicial sentencing.  This is required not only in terms of parity between races or classes, but in term of fairness of sentence durations (for all).   Our Vision should focus on reintegration of People back into society via education, work opportunities, substance abuse mitigation, and other positive self-development initiatives.

We have all paid into the system, we had better darn well get our distributions back when we're ready to retire.  All of us have worked hard throughout our lives and have earned a comfortable and secure retirement when we reach the "finish line".  Protection of this safety net has helped keep Elder Poverty in check since its inception. No one wants to live out their golden years struggling to survive.  Many cultures around the world deem "Respect for Elders" to be of high importance, and so should we.

Health care has quickly become one of the most expensive costs that Citizens are trying to manage and maintain for themselves.  It's clear that forcing insurance on People is unpopular, that Insurance premiums are astronomical, and Drug prices are soaring.  It's time to take a comprehensive look at why the system is so expensive and if there are any better Organizational structures or methods that could be developed to facilitate People's health needs.

housing

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, housing costs are soaring, like in many Metropolitan areas around the Nation.  While there are a number of hardworking organizations (affordable housing non-profits) and community protocols (rent control and affordable housing allotment requirements), they just can't keep pace with demand.  Zoning laws, Building height restrictions, Lack of available land, Property prospecting, and Transportation Network limitations, also contribute to the high costs of Housing.  A system wide assessment needs to be performed to establish which system corrections would provide the most relief.  It will take a significant public financial investment and a gargantuan amount of jurisdictional cooperation to accomplish.

budget

It is obscene that the Federal Government can behave so poorly when it comes to the hard earned and sacrificed money that the American People have ponied-up to support this Country.  Much of it going to tax breaks for Bankers and Wall Street insiders (Organized Wealth), powerful Corporate interest groups, the Military Industrial complex, and other Powerfully Entrenched entities.  Just imagine what could be accomplished if our Exploding National Debt (~15 Trillion) and Deficit (~666 Billion) was zero.   Better yet, what if we could be investing that Wealth into Noble causes or even making positive investment returns!  The People's House (Federal Government) should be required to balance it's Budget like most Families in America do.

education

Education is the basis for an informed, engaged, and productive Citizenry.  The burden of  student debt is skyrocketing and can't be shed via bankruptcy in many cases.  It is obscene that our Future (children and young adults) are effectively being conned into economic serfdom just because they are eager to learn, grow, and ultimately find good and rewarding work that will benefit our Society as a whole.   Why not imagine a system that is more in balanced towards providing fair opportunities for all parties involved, and not just the Financial interests of lenders?

economy

Can anyone define what "Economy" means Quantitatively, or even begin to Model it?  Such a feat would be worthy of multiple Nobel prizes.  Instead we get sucked into discussions about GDP, the Federal Reserve's (prime) interest rate, Jobs reports, Stock Market performance, Trade Deficits, Consumer Price Index, and other "indicators".  Politicians love to take credit for good times and love to point the finger in bad times, but can't explain (or choose not to) why Main Street is struggling while Wall Street is booming.  But one thing is certain, Financial Regulations/Constraints work!  Without them, it's seriously worth looking at Monopoly busting Financial behemoths, to ensure that the People's private savings are safely protected.  Sound monetary policy is key for both Economic Stability and Wealth Parity.

gun violence

Automatic weapons simply do not belong in the hands of the ordinary Citizens.  They were made for maximum killing power and suppression in warfare scenarios.  Weapons as a whole should not be granted to those with a proven history of domestic violence (higher risk of killing partner), emotional instabilities, or serious personality/mood disorders.  Sidearms (personal or home protection) or manual action rifles (for hunters or sporting activities) seem reasonable when paired with proper training and safety discipline.  Any armed forces personnel or law enforcement officer will tell you the same, as they all went through such fire-arms training programs themselves.  There are more reasonable approaches to staying faithful to the 2nd Amendment.

national defense

Our Active and Veteran service men and women deserve our full support for defending this Nation from conventional threats and in receiving adequate Health services to deal with their current (and future)  physical and mental wounds that are experienced (or develop) through such arduous duty.  That said, having ~1/2 of our national budget's Discretionary Spending (2016) dedicated to a Military Budget when the world is experiencing its lowest levels of  human deaths resulting from warfare in history, appears to be an over-compensation.

immigration

Immigration has been a mainstay of the Nation since Before it's inception.  To deny it's Value and the Roots of all of our Families is myopic.  We all came to this Land from immigrant ancestors, at one time or another.   Each such migration offered Hope and Opportunity to those in search of a better life, one free from oppression, one safe from violence, one removed from a lack of resources.  We should be proud to be a Nation of such beckoning light, of such promise and pride of ownership.   A Balanced approach is required to satisfy the needs of all People, to respect American law and honor new Neighbors seeking Sanctuary under our Protection.

foreign policy

Too quickly does the Country's leadership resort to utilizing the Hammer of Power that is the United States' armed forces, instead of approaching regional conflicts with heavier Diplomatic and Political means.  Being the World's Police force is expensive and leaves service men and women on tours of duty for far too long.  We need more emphasis on developing Safe zones (long term objective), which should be managed and defended by local inhabitants, while only calling on US forces for emergencies or tactical joint operations with achievable/short-term objectives.  Getting "buy-in" from neighboring countries via diplomacy, will help ensure long term viability of such protected spaces, ideally laying the groundwork for continued interdependency and cooperation among conflicting Neighbors.

infrastructure

We have all witnessed the decay of our Nation's infrastructure over the years due to lack of investment, higher capacity loads (more traffic, etc.), and simple fatigue and wear.  We as a Nation need to decide if we prefer to spend money soon, to start retrofit or replacement work, or else watch our economic cirulatory system decay, crumble, and then disintegrate beneath our feet.  It's an incredibly large job, but if we installed it once, we can do it again.
